Our sanitary ware is made of ABS with a methacrylate film or in UV-protected PS, in both cases white in colour with a smooth finish. ABS with a methacrylate film, which we have always used in manufacturing our range of sanitary ware, is regarded as the leading material for such products as shower enclosures and hydro-massage tubs. The methacrylate film preserves the product’s colour over the years, makes it brighter, and protects it from wear and tear, scratches and abrasions. In addition, the presence of butadiene (a rubber) increases the product’s elasticity, preventing crystallisation and improving shock resistance. We began using UV-protected PS in October 2005, in response to pressing demand from a market continually looking for more economical, more competitive products. In appearance, this material is very similar to ABS with a methacrylate film, though its mechanical properties are not so good and it is less resistant to abrasions and atmospheric agents, and is more vulnerable to attack by chemical substances. Nevertheless, the fact that it is UV-protected means that the colour fades more slowly than in the case of normal PS. Dil Plast has therefore decided to restrict use of this material to wash troughs, washbasins and mirrors.
